As Mattis takes helm of CENTCOM, Gates praises his leadership

MacDILL AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. — Marine Corps Gen. James Mattis took the reins of U.S. Central Command on Wednesday evening, capping a major shakeup in military leadership that began with the publication of a sensational Rolling Stone article in June and the ensuing resignation of the Afghanistan war’s top commander.
Mattis succeeds Gen. David Petraeus, perhaps the nation’s most popular man in uniform, who after helping turn around the war in Iraq spent two years building a reputation as a military-diplomat, crisscrossing the Middle East and glad-handing national leaders in an effort to expand the U.S. military footprint and build up a regional strategic partnership. read full article>>

ICAF Grad - Capt. Linda Fagan: New USCG commander first woman to hold post
Capt. Linda Fagan's Coast Guard career has taken her to all seven continents. For the next three years, Staten Island will be her home base. The 47-year-old Boston native was sworn in as commander of Coast Guard Sector New York during a Change of Command ceremony held Thursday in the Music Hall of Snug Harbor Cultural Center and Botanical Garden, Livingston. Stationed at Fort Wadsworth, she becomes the first woman to command Sector New York -- the largest operation field command in the Coast Guard.
ICAF 08 Grad - Sallese takes command of Corps’ Galveston District
GALVESTON, Texas – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Galveston District, held a change of command ceremony July 7, 2010, where Colonel Christopher W. Sallese assumed command of the Galveston District from outgoing commander Colonel David C. Weston. Colonel Thomas W. Kula, commander of the Corps’ Southwestern Division, presided over the ceremony, which was held at the district’s headquarters building. “I am truly happy to be standing here in front of you as the new Galveston District commander,” said Sallese. “My family and I are humbled by the presence of so many in attendance and are extremely happy to be back in Texas.”
