2017 D-Day Remembrance Reception at NDU

The NDU Foundation commemorated the anniversary of the D-Day Invasion on June 06, 1944 and Major General J. Milnor Roberts. Major General Roberts took part in the Normandy invasion and the Battle of the Bulge. Major General Roberts safeguarded a copy of the D-Day plans in his service which were generously donated to NDU Special Collections by Mrs. Priscilla Roberts. Mrs. Roberts sponsored the D-Day commemoration and has been a strong supporter of the NDU Foundation for many years. The NDU Foundation paid tribute to him and the men and women who served during that historic day.

Sam Bruce (Priscilla Roberts’ cousin), Sheila Ronis (Chair, NDU Foundation), Major General Frederick M. Padilla (President, NDU) and Larry Rzepka (President, NDU Foundation) spoke at the remembrance.

Our featured speaker was Colonel Jason A. Altieri who is a faculty member here at NDU (Chair, US Army Studies) for the National War College. Colonel Altieri gave an impassioned speech about the importance of D-Day in relation to World War II, and proclaimed that it may be the most important day of the twentieth century.
